The global spread of COVID-19 is affecting all of us. The president has declared a national public health emergency, and the governors of the states of Oregon and Washington have declared public health emergencies. At Ahlers Cressman & Sleight, we are innovating and experimenting with new ways to stay productive in these challenging times. One of the lessons learned is the most effective way to minimize the risk of the virus’s transmission is to reduce density and maximize social distance. As rates of new infections continue to grow, we are taking additional steps to protect our team and clients.
During these unsettling times, ACS is focused on protecting the health and safety of our team, clients and communities, and doing our part to help contain the spread of the COVID–19. We are committed to providing uninterrupted service to our clients at the highest level. We intend to support our clients through these challenging and dynamic times and maintain the excellent service that our clients expect.
ACS is currently open for business and conducting business. We have adopted, in coordination with government and critical service providers, a response to the COVID-19 outbreak designed to keep our business running in a pragmatic and informed manner. Some of our lawyers and staff will be working remotely. Calls to the front desk will continue to be answered. All of our lawyers will have their mobile phones charged and on, and with them at all times until further notice. Likewise, lawyers will have their laptops charged and with them, accessible to you, at all times so they are ready to go to work and assist you with communications, legal strategies, notices, letters and other matters. Our lawyers will be checking their emails, texts and voice messages throughout the day. Calls to the lawyers’ offices will be forwarded to lawyers’ cell phones. Cell phones will be checked regularly.
We have restricted travel and large group meetings. Telephone conference calls are a great way to stay in touch, have meetings and obtain real time updates. We encourage communication by telephone and teleconferencing. We believe that though this is a challenging moment, moving to flexible work arrangements will allow us to both be efficient and safe. We have been inspired by the humanity and determination from first responders in our community. As president Lincoln put it in a time of great adversity: “The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, we must think anew and act anew.”
That is how we at ACS have chosen to meet challenges and we intend to rise to meet this one, too.
