The structural design for the Vancouver Convention Centre was modeled in 3-D using building information modeling (BIM). By using BIM, the structural engineers were able to estimate the amount of steel needed within 5% of the final configuration. The AGC and other industry organizations have developed the Consensus Docs BIM Addendum 301 which provides a workable, practical, and reasonable allocation of risk and responsibilities associated with Building Information Modeling.
