With funding from the Federal Transit Administration, the Portland-Milwaukie light-rail transit project is set to start construction. The project consists of 7.3 miles of light-rail extending the existing Tri-Met line from Portland to Milwaukie, Oregon. Federal funds will total $745.2 million and the remaining funds will come from local agencies and governments.

A light-rail bridge across the Willamette River that will also carry buses, bikes and pedestrians is already under construction. The line will run from Portland State University in downtown Portland to South Waterfront, SE Portland, Milwaukie and North Clackamas County. The project is expected to generate more than 14,500 jobs.
